Akwa Ibom State PDP State Chairman, Paul Ekpo has cautioned Uyo Federal Constituency party delegates against selecting unpopular candidates during the forthcoming party nomination process.

According to the party chairman, an unpopular candidate usually becomes a burden to the party and decreases the chances of emerging winners at the general poll.

The chairman said this at the empowerment \ constituency briefing of incumbent lawmaker representing the area, Hon. Mike Enyong. Enyong, popularly nicknamed Babantan was elected into the Green Chambers in 2015.The event which held on Tuesday at Ibom Hall was the first constituency briefing by Enyong in three and a half years.

Ekpo, who came in company of some party EXCO members, frowned at candidates who disappear for years only to resurface when election beckons. He also warned candidates who peddle rumours of being preferred candidates of the party to desist from the act saying every candidate must work hard to earn the trust of delegates.

“Power is struggle, you don’t sit in your room to seek political power, you must work for it.
If you want to nominate, nominate a candidate that is salable, as a party we have no prefered candidate…work for your ambition,” Ekpo said.
